Finding Ulysses

There are a lot of people here who were eager to see Les Roberts campaign all the way to the primary, and some who were already signed up to pitch in and do their part. They have the opportunity to volunteer for the Arcuri for Congress campaign now, but Arcuri’s tendency to lean toward the right may not match well with the Trumansburg idea of what the Democratic Party is all about.

The citizens served by the Trumansburg Central Schools approved the budget and two propositions, and also approved the extra $7,000 levy for the Ulysses Philomathic Library.

I’ve lived in simple farm communities in Upstate New York for many years before moving here, and I can tell you that Trumansburg is no simple farm community. Simple farm communities don’t have yoga centers, coffee houses, and village bistros in their downtown areas. Simple farm communities also don’t have the amazing richness of artists, thinkers, and freelancers that we have in our village and town.

It seems that a new village has incorporated just south of Trumansburg, and its name is Trucktown. Here’s the billboard to prove it. Now, there are no actual residents of Trucktown, other than the migrant fans of the Grassroots festival who camp and take an occasional bath in the waterfalls on the southern border of Trucktown.

The color of the blossoms is better appreciated when the light is not so bright as to produce a glare. It is a good day, then, for a walk through the village to appreciate the individual trees in our neighborhoods, or a bike ride out in the countryside to go more slowly past the great mounds of pink and white.

7:30 PM tonight at the Elementary School Auditorium there will be a Trumansburg Central School District budget hearing.
