Buy Local – Black Diamond Farms Fruit at Big M

Thanks to the Big M supermarket here in the village for supporting locally grown foods. I just got an email from Jackie Merwin with the news that, as of this week, you now can get two varieties of apple grown by Black Diamond Farms.

Please reward the Big M for taking this step – by going in a buying some of this good local fruit. It’s a risk for them financially, but we can all help show that it’s a risk with a big payoff. Buying local foods keeps money in the local economy, and that ought to be a benefit for local businesses, as well as us residents.

Plus, as my kids will attest, it’s just plain yummy.

I applaud the Big M in Trumansburg for taking the initiative and sticking it’s neck out for the local folks in town. They have taken many steps to bring in local produce and products. Along with the Black Diamond Fruit Farms produce, George Ball’s sweet corn has been in stock most all season, Amish farmers from Ovid bring over watermelons, tomatoes and lopes, bird seed products come in from an Interlaken vendor, Goat milk products from Interlaken, as well…Tofus and breads arrive from Ithaca. The Big M is listening and has listened to you speak. Please be sure to show them support, especially at this time during construction when it seems as though folks have gone elsewhere due to inconvenience NOT brought on by Big M folks. I’ve noticed and I’m concerned that we are not giving back to them all that they continue to give to us!! We finally have decent competition in town for our hard earned dollars when buying food. I am on a fixed income and consider myself a smart shopper. I’ve done my homework! (DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DO PRICE COMPARISONS….BIG M ALMOST ALWAYS UNDERPRICES SHURFINE!)
