Should the Trumansburg Village Board of Trustees Pass a Pro-Impeachment Resolution?
An interesting idea was brought up by Allen Carstensen last night at the Back to Democracy meeting with the three candidates for Village Board of Trustees. Allen asked Rordan Hart, Chris Thomas and David Filiberto whether they would, if elected to the Trumansburg Village Board of Trustees, allow a vote to be taken on a resolution encouraging the houses of the New York State legislature to take formal action petitioning Congress to impeach President George W. Bush.
As Allen pointed out, state legislatures do have the power to force the United States House of Representatives to consider a petition for the impeachment of the President of the United States. To this end, many local governments are passing pro-impeachment resolutions in order to pressure the legislatures in their states.
The first local government to do so was Santa Cruz, California, back in 2003. In Vermont, 40 local governments have passed such resolutions just this year.
There will be information about what local governments can do on the issue of impeachment at the Tompkins County march for peace tomorrow. The Ulysses contingent will be starting their part of the march from Cass Park, walking to the Ithaca Commons, at 2:00 PM. Call Katherine Ludwig, 387-6282, for information about the march.
More to come soon on the responses of Rordan Hart, Chris Thomas and David Filiberto to the impeachment question. In the meantime, what do you think? Should the Trumansburg Village Board of Trustees Pass a pro-impeachment resolution?

Jonathan,
While this might eventually be a cool question for a sitting Board to consider, I’m actually more interested right now in getting a sense of who these people are from those who actually have to work with them on the Board. So, my question is: what do Mayor Levine, and Trustees Horn and Hrubos think? What do our Town officials think? Where are Doug, Roxanne, Don, Rod, and Lucia on this? Who should we support and why, elected officials? Who do you support? Are you out there actually campaigning for the people who you think deserve this responsibilty? Come on, in real campaigns, elected officials take a stand. I look forward to hearing from our local elected officials on this.
