Main Street Trumansburg is looking even better, with the help of some volunteers who got together this morning to put up a stone wall in front of the Colonial Laundromat. When I stopped in, there were at least 20 people mixing mortar, unloading stone, or building the wall. The wall gained height pretty quickly, and to my untrained eyes, it looks pretty good.
The stone wall will be part of a Main Street playspace for children, with child-sized houses within good view of the creek. Little feet should be restrained by the wall from wandering too close to the street
A quickly-built fence from Home Depot would have been easier than a stone wall, I suppose, but not so aesthetically pleasing. Our area is lucky to have good building stone than many nearby communities (north of the Thruway, for instance) would love to have so readily available. It’s good to see aspects of Trumansburg’s natural heritage incorporated into the new design of Main Street.

My wife, Karen and some of our family were at the wall site on Saturday AM and witnessed the energy and desire to be apart of a community activity to build the stone wall. I wanted to thank all the volunteers for their work and point to a few, Alan V., Jim McKenna, John U. for their leadership, gudance and Jim’s expertise in guiding the project. It was great to watch it all happen. Jim Dennis
