Liz Thomas and Dave Kerness Win Over Republicans for Town Board
Alliterative names lost to comprehensive experience yesterday. Democrats Dave Kerness and Liz Thomas earned solid victories over Republicans Heather Hartwell and Scott Sherwood, to become the two newest members of the Ulysses Town Board. Two seats were left vacant by Democrats Don Ellis and Roxanne Marino.
The Tompkins County Board of Elections reports the following unofficial results:
Liz Thomas: 673
Dave Kerness: 660
Scott Sherwood: 529
Heather Hartwell: 585
In District 1, Scott Sherwood got the most votes, with Heather Hartwell behind him. However, in Districts 2, 3, and 4, Liz Thomas and Dave Kerness were far ahead.

Congrats Liz and Dave! Wow check out the BOE site…republicans are on the run!!! Cant win in Caroline, cant win in Dryden, cant win in Danby, dont even try anywhere with Ithaca in the name, and of course CANT WIN IN ULYSSES.
Well there’s always Groton to call home:)
CONGRATS, Liz! Your dad said you were running, so of course we hoped to hear you’d win….and of course you did! WAY TO GO!!! Needless to say, we’re very very happy for you – and the lucky folks in Ulysses. –
Hmmmm….I’ve never been related to a dignitary before! Looking forward to seeing you soon,
R & B
After hearing all four candidates speak and answer questions at the informational meeting BTD organized, I am thrilled that Liz Thomas and Dave Kerness won! It is disturbing to me that the other candidates got so many votes, though, when Liz and Dave CLEARLY have so much more experience, vision, and drive that will be useful to the people of Ulysses.
