Public, not for Profit!
Trustee Chris Thomas put together the task force to study his plan to privatize our ambulance/ems service, and they have recommended going forward with the plan. From his libertarian point of view, this makes perfect sense. Libertarians are against governmental control of many of the essential services that we have democratically decided to fund. A Libertarian would not object to increasing the profits of the multi-billion dollar private, for profit health insurance industry, which his plan will do.
If you ever need ambulatory care from our Trumansburg ambulance it will be completely free. There are no bills sent to recipients of care, just as there are no bills for help from the Fire Department or the Police Department. This is as it should be. Fire, Police, and Ambulance, are all funded by our taxes, as they should be. We must object to this privatization scheme.
Why, at a time when most of us want a single payer, universal health care system, would Trumansburg discard the portion of that, that we have right now, in our wonderful ambulance/ems service.
