Trumansburg Village Web Filled With Errors and Gaps
For the consideration of the Trumansburg Village Board of Trustees and Village Clerk: People looking for information about Trumansburg currently come across two web sites when searching on Google. One, trumansburg.ny.us, is the top search, though it’s outdated and incomplete. The other, trumansburg-ny.gov, is described in the Google search as the official web site of the village, and is more complete. According to the page’s footer, the information was last updated in April of last year.
Upon looking for information about the village government on the official site, we see that Mayor Petrovic’s photograph is still “coming soon”, two years after he was first elected. The site informs us that Petrovic’s current term expires in 2008.
There hasn’t been anything listed on the Village calendar of “events and meetings” since May 9. Any residents looking for information about upcoming activities of their local government will find nothing, for the rest of the year’s calendar.
Minutes of the meetings of the Board of Trustees have not been updated since November 2007.
According to the Tompkins County Board of Elections, there isn’t a single Village position up for election this year. It shows.

Jon,
I think that http://www.trumansburg.ny.us was built and maintained by our former Mayor John Levine. You’ll recall that he left under less than friendly circumstances involving Geoffrey Hart, a lawsuit, and a skateboard park idea. I wonder if leaving it up has something to do with revenge. I’ll look into it.
It certainly wouldn’t be difficult to make the official Village website much more informative. I’ve noticed the lack of info on the calendar too. If I was on the board I would try to post the audio files of the meetings. I was doing that at ulyssesdemocrats.blogspot.com until I got distracted by a presidential election.
It might not even be too difficult to provide a live video stream of the meetings. I’ve experimented with this at http://www.ustream.tv
The point is to encourage citizen participation. Could it be that they don’t really want that?
