Ulysses Democratic Caucus Results

The Democratic Party held it’s caucus to nominate candidates for the election upcoming on November third. They nominated incumbent Republican Jim Meeker, so he will most likely continue as Highway Superintendent.  They nominated Erica Naylor for Ulysses Town Clerk.  There were no challengers to Lucia Tyler. We nominated her for Town Council person, so she [...]

Pictures of the Fair from Cold Springs

Alex Solla of Cold Springs Studio Pottery has taken a fine set of photographs of the Trumansburg Fair at night. I was there at the same time, but didn’t happen to see him. The lights that night were particularly stunning, in the crisping air. Seems like we’re moving toward autumn in that way. It was [...]

A Missing Item On That School Calendar

Parents and other community members seeking to organize their lives around the impending re-entry of Trumansburg’s children into school may be left feeling a bit confused after looking at the Trumansburg Central School District calendar. You see, although the Varsity Cheerleading practice is mentioned in the calendar, along with the Dance Aerobics class taking place [...]

Parade Today

The Trumansburg Fair continues today, with the Fireman’s Parade along Main Street starting at about 5:00 PM, and fireworks scheduled to start around dusk. Those fireworks may need to be rescheduled, though, and you might want to bring an umbrella to the parade just in case. Rain is expected later today.

Marino Joins Race For Ulysses Town Supervisor

The policy positions expressed by Chris Thomas seem to have caused such concern that some Ulysses Democrats began looking for another alternative to Thomas. Roxanne Marino, who has a great deal of experience on the Town Board already, has stepped forward, and intends to seek the nomination at the Democratic caucus.

EMS Budget – Special Village Board Meeting 8/24/09

The privatizers are back. The Village Board met tonight to discuss the “crisis” with the EMS budget. Chris Thomas explained that because of decreasing volunteerism, the EMS budget would have to see an increase of 25% next year. The likely figure for next year will be $425,000. I’m guessing there are about 8000 people served [...]

Ulysses Gets A Finger Lakes Corn Maze

The maze is in the shape of a giant map of the Finger Lakes, and includes informational signs. People who visit the maze and successfully complete a trivia contest will be entered for a chance to win a prize at the end of the season, when the corn is ready to be harvested.

Ulysses Democratic Committee Meeting 8/20

The Ulysses Democratic Committee met on Thursday 8/20.  As I have reported here before, the committee unanimously opposes my recording these events.  I understand some of the reasons, such as it allows a more frank and open discussion, and if anything untoward is said about someone in the community, it need not become public.  But, [...]

Senate Candidate Visits Trumansburg

Health care and financial issues make up the bulk of Scott Noren’s political agenda, though he does express his opinion on a few other issues as well. Noren believes in limited gun control legislation, supports the right of state governments to ban same-sex marriage, is pro-choice, and is concerned about illegal immingration.

Fugitive in Trumansburg

Police in Trumansburg this afternoon are seeking a woman with long dark hair, apparently of European-American descent, with scratches on her arms. She is alleged to have been caught breaking in to a house on Main Street, near the center of the village. People who see this suspect are advised to call 911.
