Senate Candidate Visits Trumansburg
Much has been made of the difficulty of candidates who seek to challenge New York’s appointed junior U.S. Senator, Kirsten Gillibrand. Although she has brief political experience, Gillibrand has obtained the support of much of the Democratic Party establishment, and so many potential candidates who are disturbed by Gillibrand’s right-leaning politics have bowed out.
There are, nonetheless, three Democratic candidates who are running against Gillibrand for the Democratic nomination, though not one of them is reckoned to have much of a chance. There’s progressive Democrat Jonathan Tasini, who challenged Hillary Clinton in 2006. There’s Suffolk County Legislator Jon Cooper.
And then there’s Scott Noren, an oral surgeon living in Ithaca. Scott Noren visited Trumansburg yesterday evening to talk about health care issues.
Health care and financial issues make up the bulk of Noren’s political agenda, though he does express his opinion on a few other issues as well. Noren believes in limited gun control legislation, supports the right of state governments to outlaw same-sex marriage, is pro-choice, and is concerned about illegal immigration. Fiscally, Noren describes himself as “conservative”.
