Finding Ulysses

Town Board member Elizabeth Thomas announced that there are three Democrats who intend to seek their party’s nomination for just two seats: Herself, Dave Kerness and John Hrubos.

A meeting of the Ulysses Town Board tomorrow will include discussion of an ordinance which would result in a prohibition on fracking in the countryside around Trumansburg.

Blue Ulysses Democrats will meet in the Rongovian Embassy at 5:00 PM on April 14, followed by a blues musician.

A large group of residents of the Town Ulysses came to a Town Board meeting last night in Trumansburg to express support of a measure that would block hydrofracking in natural gas drilling here.

A copy of the petition being sent by the Ulysses Gas Drilling Advisory Board, requesting that the Ulysses Town Board act to ban hydrofracking in our community.

The Democratic Party held it’s caucus to nominate candidates for the election upcoming on November third. The policy positions expressed by Chris Thomas seem to have caused such concern that some Ulysses Democrats began looking for another alternative to Thomas. Roxanne Marino, who has a great deal of experience on the Town Board already, has stepped forward, and intends to seek the nomination at the Democratic caucus.

The Ulysses Democratic Committee met on Thursday 8/20.  As I have reported here before, the committee unanimously opposes my recording these events.  I understand some of the reasons, such as it allows a more frank and open discussion, and if anything untoward is said about someone in the community, it need not become public.  But, [...]

What was happening at that meeting that the Ulysses Democrats don’t want us to know about? What were they saying that they don’t want the rest of us to hear?

Perhaps, yet again, the Democrats and Republicans will arrange to support the very same candidate. Perhaps Allen Carstensen’s Green campaign will force the Democrats and Republicans to actually compete against each other. The political situation is too fresh, and too unprecedented, for certain analysis.
