In these darkening days, Phoulao bringing us a video from when our village was warmer and lighter, and when the Trumansburg playground was still new: Why did National Guard recruiters let elementary school children handle guns, pointing them at other children, at the Trumansburg Fair? Visitors note Cayuga Lakes temperature at “a chilly 70 degrees”. Around here, that’s rather balmy. The La Leche League meets in Trumansburg on the 3rd Thursday of every month at the Ulysses Philomathic Library, at 7:00 in the evening. Pregnant women and mothers of breastfeeding chilren are encouraged to attend. We could drive our son to school in relative comfort, it’s true, but if every family does that every day, it creates a nasty traffic situation, and the waste of a great deal of fuel as well. Many of Trumansburg’s children are friends of children raised by heterosexual couples, but they don’t have the same protection of having parents who can become legally joined through marriage. These children are made the victims of society’s prejudice against their parents. Senator George Winner is stoking that prejudice. Gorges Kids, the children’s clothing resale shop in Trumansburg, is nearing its one-year anniversary. This Sunday, there will be an event at the Ulysses Philomathic Library that you’ll want to be sure not to miss.
