A large group of residents of the Town Ulysses came to a Town Board meeting last night in Trumansburg to express support of a measure that would block hydrofracking in natural gas drilling here. Town Board member Liz Thomas continues to keep Trumansburg and the town of Ulysses well-informed about upcoming public meetings of special importance. News from Liz Thomas on water development issues in the town of Ulysses It seems likely that the Town Board illegally adjourned the March 11 meeting, since the motion to adjourn made by Doug Austic, and seconded by Rod Ferrentino, was never voted on. After hearing the second to his motion to adjourn, Supervisor Austic, along with Trustee Ferrentino and clerk Marcia Georgia left the premises. While it is true that a motion to adjourn is not debatable, it does require a majority vote of the Town Board. The Ithaca Journal has an article about this meeting here. Ulysses Town Council-person Liz Thomas, has an article about it here. Democrats Dave Kerness and Liz Thomas earned solid victories over Republicans Heather Hartwell and Scott Sherwood, to become the two newest members of the Ulysses Town Board. Two seats were left vacant by Democrats Don Ellis and Roxanne Marino. In District 1, Scott Sherwood got the most votes, with Heather Hartwell behind him. However, in Districts 2, 3, and 4, Liz Thomas and Dave Kerness were far ahead. |
