I’m a liberal, and I’m happy that Democrat Mike Arcuri lost yesterday to Republican Richard Hanna. Here’s why… How can any decent, freedom-loving Trumansburg Democrat continue to support the Arcuri re-election campaign, when Mike Arcuri has joined in the hateful anti-Muslim crusade? Mike Arcuri is not a supporter of the No New Drilling Act. He hasn’t cosponsored the bill, or any other bill that would help our government deal with the current oil spill disaster or prevent future ones. Although Republican challenger Richard Hanna took more than half again as much money as Arcuri in general during the first quarter of this year, Hanna did not receive any donations from Trumansburg. Les Roberts need not worry about being an election “spoiler”. Mike Arcuri has already spoiled his chances quite well enough all on his own. Arcuri certainly got some interesting telephone messages from Tea Party protesters, but perhaps more convincing was the $53,500 he received from medical industry PACs, and $15,000 from insurance industry PACs. That’s in addition to the amounts given by individual lobbyists. Trumansburg’s Congressman, Mike Arcuri, just voted against health care reform! Maybe Arcuri’s growing Republican voting record okay with the political machine up in Utica, but voters down in this corner of the district see things differently. Our Representative in Congress, Mike Arcuri, voted yesterday in favor of extending the Patriot Act without reforming it one bit. Yesterday, Mike Arcuri voted for H.R. 4154, a bill which gives a tax cut of 18 percent, but applies exclusively to the extremely wealthy. Yesterday, the Ulysses Democratic Committee sent a letter to our U.S. Representative, Michael Arcuri about his vote for the FISA Amendments Act. The Ulysses Democratic Committee also sent letters to senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. Barack Obama has declared that he will vote for the FISA Amendments Act, even if amendments are not passed to improve the law. |
