There won’t be a protest of this sort in Trumansburg today, but take the Route 21 bus down to Ithaca, and you can be dropped off right at the protest in Ithaca, starting at 5:00 PM. In Ithaca at 4:00 this afternoon, on the corner outside the Tompkins County Public Library, there will be a Speak Out for Peace. Why would it matter if Geri Keil’s statue depicted the Virgin of Guadelupe being devoured by a bottle of Coca Cola? Public libraries don’t exist to cater to the religious beliefs of particular groups. A handful of residents came to stand along route 96 in Trumansburg on Saturday to commemorate the tragic invasion of Iraq in 2003. |
